My name is Elsa. I've been married to my husband for 29 years. I didn't find out until about five years into our marriage that he had depression. I was very shocked because my husband is very shy, timid, and I just thought that's how he was. When he told me he had this problem, I encouraged him to go to the doctor's, and he was willing to do it because he wanted to get better. He had to try a lot of different medications up and down. The side effects from them are awful. When my husband wasn't doing well and I was getting a little bit discouraged, I thought, "I've got to jump on this and find something better." I went online, and I researched NeuroStar Treatment. We went into the doctor's office the next day for an appointment, and they immediately said he was a perfect candidate for NeuroStar.

They totally make you feel comfortable. I would always stay with my husband during the treatment, not that I had to stay there, but the staff and the nurses and the treaters were just so wonderful. They just made us feel really comfortable. I felt like it was very important to keep the same time and the same scheduled day after day, so either we'd go out to breakfast before he would have the treatment or we would go do something afterwards. It would always be just a little treat, or depending on the weather, we'd just go out and have fun and relax. I think a routine always helps everybody, and especially with somebody who's going through NeuroStar treatment. If you keep on the same routine, it's going to be beneficial.

I think I saw a change when I noticed him doing things that he wasn't doing before. He was actually saying, "Let's go on a road trip." He was more active and had more energy. It's like he's looking through a whole new pair of glasses. He can finally see, and I'm looking at a new husband. I started a journal actually three months prior to his therapy with NeuroStar, and I started to record all of the medications that he was on and the side effects he was going through, but I also wrote down all my emotions of how I was feeling. There were some tough times, and it just helped me to get through the process. It's important to be patient. It's not going to happen overnight, but once it starts opening up for you and you see those changes, it's like a new light in your life. It's wonderful.
